Cheap Shotz and Triage are the bands I was in while
stationed at Osan Air Base, South Korea.
Cheap Shotz was mainly a Classic Rock/Blues band with an occasional dip inot Modern Rock.
It started out as a five peice consisting of:
Steve "Akustic Kid" DeLong: Lead/Back Vocals, Acoustic Guitar,
Keyboards
Steve "Stevie Ray" Yoder: Back/Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar
Sam Chung: Back/Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar
Bill "Bildo" Bauer : Back Vocals, Bass
Me: Duh
Sam left the band shortly after formation (he was in DeLong's previous band) to join
another Osan AB band called Nurse Betty. While both Cheap Shotz and Nurse Betty were
due to break up because members were moving to various other bases (Osan is a one year
assignment for most people), Sam and I hooked up with a bass player by the name of Mark
Sobus. Mark is by far the best bass player I have yet to work with. He has
toured with the Air Force's variety show Tops in Blue several times. We put
together what is now called Triage.
Triage's original concept was a band that Mark and I could use to
stretch and play songs other than Classic Rock and Blues. We wanted to be able to
improv. The problem was finding a guitarist that could hang. And Sam
fit teh bill. Triage was
known as "The ROK's Most Explosive Power Trio". We were constantly playing
sometimes twice a day...well a day gig and a night gig. And where it took Cheap Shotz about 8 months to get a gig at the Enlisted Club at Osan, it only took us one show.
We actually had T-shirts and baseball caps made and sold them. So as
you might guess, things went quite well. Triage is:
Sam Chung: Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar
Mark Sobus: 4, 5, 6 string bass
Me: If you don't know, you've got probs
Unfortunately we were not able to get any recordings done before I left.
I do have some video footage that I might post. |
